My name is Haileigh Farrell, author of the sports PR blog, “Powerful in Pink.” Throughout my life, sports have been a large part of my identity. I began playing lacrosse and ice hockey in first grade. I went on to become an Under Armour Lacrosse All American and member of the U.S. Lacrosse Upstate New York Team in high school winning a national championship. Now, I am an NCAA Division I athlete at the University of Oregon on the Women’s Lacrosse Team and a PAC-12 All-Academic selectee.
After arriving at Oregon, I quickly found my home off the field as well in the School of Journalism and Communications. The purpose of my blog is to combine my passion for public relations with emerging issues in and related to the sports industry and in particular, female athletes. Areas of interest I will look to cover in my blog include how female athletes are represented in the media and examples of PR campaigns that are breaking down female stereotypes in sports. These topics like most I will cover are inspired by current events, such as CBS referring to Julie Ertz, a medal-winning member of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team who won the 2019 World Cup, an “NFL wife” in a tweet or Nike’s recently released female-dominated “Dream Crazier” campaign.
